True Distinction in the Scales of Eternity: When the Labors of the Striving Are Never Lost

In the forgotten alleys of history, and on the doorsteps of old laboratories littered with scattered notes, lies the sweat of thousands of forgotten souls who spent their lives seeking truth and inventing what benefits humanity. Human history is often unjust; it immortalizes only the one who lays the final cornerstone, or the one who picks up where others left off to harvest the fruits, leaving the world to applaud the victor while oblivion wraps the pages of early pioneers. How many researchers spent their lives tracking causes of failure, correcting paths, and trying a thousand unsuccessful ways, only for another to take the essence of that pure effort and claim the invention solely under their own name!

Among humans, these efforts may fade into the crowd of memory, and people pay attention only to the one through whose hands visible results appeared. But are they ever lost with God?

Absolute Divine Justice: Effort is Worship, Results are Sustenance

In the belief of a believer, not an atom's weight of effort is lost, nor does sincere sweat shed for the benefit of humanity go in vain. Our noble faith anchors a profound concept of work and diligence: Diligence and mastery are your choice, while success is provision from God, bestowed upon whomever He wills.

  • Work is worship: What is with God is not measured by the glitter of worldly fame, nor by the applause in history halls.
  • Absolute justice: The one who achieved the visible result may be more famous among humans, but the sincere worker who persevered through striving and failure with patience is closer to God's pleasure and His absolute justice, which never wrongs anyone by an atom's weight.

From this, it becomes clear that continuity, perseverance, and reliance on God are not merely worldly behaviors, but a sublime act of worship. Its greatness lies in not waiting for glorious results as a condition to continue; for the real worth is not in picking the fruit alone, but in the honor of planting the seed and striving to serve others.

The Value and Priority of Work: When a "Sapling" is Worth More Than Any Waiting

The status and nobility of work in Islam are emphasized even in the most critical moments. When one's time approaches and circumstances tighten, Islam does not ask the Muslim to surrender to laziness or despair under the pretext that time has run out; rather, it directs their energy toward beneficial, enduring effort.

Sufficient evidence of this is the profound prophetic guidance:

“If the Final Hour comes while one of you has a palm sapling in his hand, if he can plant it before he stands up, let him do so.” (Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad).

This deeply profound prophetic tradition reinforces the priority of benefiting people and building the earth—even if the planter does not live to see its fruit, and even if the Day of Judgment is at hand! It is a divine declaration that beneficial work holds intrinsic value in itself, and that striving in service of humanity is not tied to worldly returns or social status, but to sincerity toward God and seeking His great reward.

Cast Away Laziness and Frustration: True Honor Lies There

To those weighed down by feelings of frustration because your efforts have not yet borne fruit, or because your achievements have not elevated you in the eyes of people: Do not grieve.

  • Do not look at the deficient worldly scale, for it sees only surface appearances and final outcomes.
  • Look to the Lord of the Worlds, the Just, the Merciful, who sees you as you struggle through hardships, correct mistakes, and insist on trying again.

Your exerted effort, your honest sweat, and your genuine desire to benefit God’s creation are all recorded in pages where nothing is lost. True distinction is not in what people see and applaud, but in what your Lord sees of your sincere intention and tireless effort. Rest assured that you will never be lost with a Merciful and Just God, who rewards goodness with goodness and multiplies your reward for every attempt.
